Mr. Staav’s career in commercial real estate has been profoundly informed by his experience working in his family’s international diamond and jewelry manufacturing business. Responsible for client development and sales growth in the U.S., he raveled to almost every state in the Union visiting and becoming familiar with the operations and objectives of department stores and independent retailers alike. His later associations with the art world in Soho familiarized him with the downtown real estate market.
When Mr. Staav moved into the commercial real estate business, working at Garrick-Aug in the late 1988, he very quickly became responsible for some of the more pivotal retail developments in Soho, including tenanting the Soho Grand Hotel, Cipriani and Tommy Hilfiger. With subsequent moves to New Spectrum and then to Lansco in the late 1990s, he combined his track record as an independent self-starter with his belief that the most effective way to services the commercial real estate needs of landlords, tenants and investors alike, was through a team approach. He joined forces with Christine Emery in 1999 to spearhead a dynamic and independent real estate team at Lansco. Combining their strengths and breadth of knowledge they offer an alternative to the New York commercial real estate world.
Mr. Staav’s experience in emerging markets has led him to his involvement in the revitalization of the financial district where he has been awarded the Real Estate Board of New York “2007 Deal of the Year” award for the Deal that most Significantly Benefits Manhattan.
